Mine
Monday, September 13th at 6:45 p.m.

Mine - man and dog on a porch

In MINE (2009), filmmaker Geralyn Pezanoski tells the stories of the pets and pet-owners affected by Hurricane Katrina. When the order came to evacuate the city of New Orleans people often had no choice but to leave their animals behind. Although scores of these animals were rescued by volunteers, the sheer number of pets in need meant that many were sent to shelters across the country in order to relieve the strain on those in the Gulf Coast area. Years later, confusion still reigns supreme as pet-owners continue to search for these lost members of their families--some of whom have been legally adopted by their temporary guardians in the interim. Pezanoski’s documentary is an intense and moving film which asks many hard questions and finds few easy answers.

WALLA will present MINE at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, September 13th at the West Lafayette Public Library.

Arsenic and Old Lace
Monday, October 4th at 6:45 p.m.

arsenic & old lace

Poor Mortimer Brewster (Cary Grant) is experiencing a most unusual wedding day. While making a quick visit home to share his joyful news with his aunts, Mortimer learns that his surprise is hardly the only one in store for the Brewster family that day; between his aunts' killer elderberry wine, one brother who believes he's Teddy Roosevelt, and another whose plans possess a decidedly homicidal bent, will Mortimer and his wife ever make it to Niagara Falls? Or will the whole Brewster clan end up in the Happydale Sanitarium?

Frank Capra's Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) will be presented by WALLA at the West Lafayette Public Library at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, October 4th.

Séraphine
Monday, November 1st at 6:45 p.m.

Seraphine

German art critic and collector Wilhelm Uhde (Ulrich Tukur) was hoping for peace and solitude when he rented a rural country house in the last quiet days of the year 1914-he wasn't looking for new artists, and he certainly wasn't expecting to find a brilliant painter in the person of his maid-of-all-work, Séraphine Louis (Yolande Moreau).

Director Martin Provost won seven Césars in 2009-the French equivalent of the Academy Awards-for his biopic of the woman who would one day be known to the world as Séraphine de Senlis.

This film will be presented by WALLA at the West Lafayette Public Library at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, November 1st.

The Secret of Kells
Monday, December 6th at 6:45 p.m.

Secret of the Kells

This gorgeously animated Irish-Belgian-French film tells the story of Brendan and his adventures to complete the Book of Kells before the fearsome Vikings attack the Irish monastery that is his home.

This film will be presented by WALLA at the West Lafayette Public Library at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, December 6th.
