Caldecott Winners Display
Please visit our display of Caldecott Medal winners in the cases in the children’s department and next to the elevator on the first floor. These picture books are on loan to us by former Lafayette elementary school teacher Bonnie S. Combs.
The award was first given in 1938. The first 12 books are in the display case in the children’s area, near the window. There is also a description of the award and a letter from Mrs. Combs about her collection.
The award winners for 1950 through 1979 will be in the elevator display case until March 31st. The rest of the winners will be in that case from May 1st to the end of June.
Copies of the fronts of the covers of all 79 books are pinned to the wall near the activity room of the children’s department. Please visit this array and tell us which Caldecott winners are your favorites or your children's. At the end of the summer, we will make a new display of these favorites.
