Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the West Lafayette Public Library!

Library volunteers are a special part of our team. Volunteers not only get to gain experience and insight into the happenings at the Library, but they also get to make friends and show off their skills! Maybe you are just looking for a change in your daily routine or want to contribute to your community. Whatever the reason, we’re glad to have you at the Library!
All volunteers are required to meet basic expectations. These include being punctual, committed, and a great team member for other volunteers and staff.

Volunteer in the Library

Library volunteers assist in specific areas on both short and long-term projects. Each position has a different focus, required skills set, and time commitment.

Volunteer in the Book Cellar

The Book Cellar is West Lafayette Public Library’s used bookstore. The Book Cellar seeks applicants who are interested in volunteering at the Library on a recurring weekly basis.

Volunteers are instrumental in the daily functions of The Book Cellar and engage in a variety of tasks that keep the bookstore organized and operational. The primary volunteer responsibilities in the Book Cellar are listed below (starred tasks may involve lifting boxes and/or pushing loaded book carts). Most volunteer shifts involve a combination of these tasks.

  • Assisting customers during Book Cellar open hours
  • Performing sales transactions
  • Processing incoming donations*
  • Restocking the Book Cellar*
