Overdue notices will be sent as a courtesy. Failure to receive notices does not exempt patrons from the responsibility of payment for Library materials or overdue fines and fees.

  • Overdue fines for all materials will be $0.25 per day, per item with a $10.00 cap per item.
  • If you owe $10.00 or more in fines & fees or have 15 or more overdue items you will be blocked at ALL Evergreen Indiana Libraries.
  • An overdue item will become “Lost” 45 days after the due date. At this point you will be responsible for the price of the item, any outstanding fines, a $10.00 processing fee per item, and a $10.00 Collection Agency fee.
  • No refunds will be given to a patron for “Lost” items for which a patron has paid. In addition, no fines or fees and third party collection fees will be refunded.

Renewals: Books, magazines, audiobooks, DVDs and videos may be renewed by logging onto your account at the catalog page or by phone 765-743-2261. Any materials on hold for other patrons may not be renewed. Renewals are limited to 1 time per item.

Drop Boxes: All Library materials can be returned to the library in person or placed in our drop boxes.

  • East side of West Lafayette Public Library
  • Pay Less Super Market on W. Sagamore Pkwy. Be aware that Tippecanoe County Public Library also has a drop box at this store.
  • Purdue Research Park, behind the Kurz Purdue Technology Center (M-F pick-up only)

We empty the drop boxes every day except for the occasional holiday. Items dropped in after we have picked up the box will be checked-in the next day.

Why does the Library charge fines?

  • Primarily, libraries charge fines to encourage people to return items on time. If borrowers choose not to return the items on time, they are using more than their fair share of these items. Since these items were purchased for the entire community to share, a small penalty or fine is levied on these overdue items.
  • The Library uses the revenue from the fines to purchase books, DVDs and other materials.
  • Since the fine income is used in the preparation of the annual budget and our tax revenue is declining, we cannot afford to forego the fine income.
